The RTX 5080 ripped back above $1,500, and the high end got worse fast

Today is a clean ad hoc digest day because three tracked cards moved by more than five percent in one refresh, and none of those moves helped buyers. The RTX 5080 jumped from $1,299.00 on September 1 to $1,582.40 today, a brutal 21.8% spike that wipes out the brief moment when this card looked remotely sensible. That also makes the RTX 5080 vs. RTX 5070 Ti comparison feel upside down, because the tracked RTX 5070 Ti is now $1,231.65 and still lands hundreds below it.

The flagship story got uglier too. The tracked RTX 5090 rose from $5,199.00 to $5,799.99, a 11.6% bump in a single day, while the workstation-priced RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell held at $15,499.99. If you were hoping yesterday’s easing meant the halo tier was calming down, the RTX 5090 vs. RTX 5080 matchup says the opposite.

AMD did not stay put either. The tracked RX 9070 XT climbed from $739.99 to $799.28, an 8.0% increase, which narrows the value cushion it had over Nvidia’s upper midrange. Even so, the RTX 5070 vs. RX 9070 comparison still looks like the saner shopping lane, with the RTX 5070 at $872.00 against the RX 9070 at $689.99.
